Training for Volunteers
CMG CONNECT: SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
In August of 2017, the Diocese of Salina rolled out a new program called CMG Connect. This program replaced Virtus and is the current format for our Safe Environment Training. We still have individuals who are certified through Virtus. The individuals who are still certified through Virtus were grandfathered into CMG Connect and will not need to renew with the new program until their 5-year expiration date of Virtus. Over the last 3 years, we have been transitioning those expired through Virtus to the new CMG Connect program.
The purpose of the Safe Environment Training, through the CMG Connect Program is to educate adults within our school on how to interact with and protect our students, children and/or young people as it pertains to sexual abuse. Therefore, those that have regular contact with our students, children and/or young people are required to perform the Safe Environment Training.
The faculty & staff of Holy Family Elementary are required to perform the Safe Environment Training upon hire.
Any parent/guardian, grandparent or other individual who plans to volunteer within our school is required to perform the Safe Environment Training before they are allowed to minister. Volunteering in our school consists of but is not limited to the following: Mass ushers, lead parents, classroom helpers, lunch servers, field trip drivers. Additional training is required for field trip drivers, see the ‘Driving for Field Trips’ tab.
The training lasts 5 years and must be renewed before its expiration date for all those who come in regular contact with or students, children and/or young people. Those that have done the training will be notified when the end of their five years is approaching so that they are aware that they need to renew.
TMP-MHS also requires this training. This training transfers and qualifies for them if you did the training with us and vice versa.
