Chess Club Takes 3rd!
Holy Family comes from behind in a 6th round spoiler at Topeka’s Christ the Kind opening chess season tournament! Noah Bruggeman won 4 games, placing 10th individually in the K-5 division. Jensen Brull also contributed 4 wins placing 14th overall. Braydon Binder and Tate Dinkel added 3 wins a piece at 23rd and 26th place respectively. All four boys had a 6th round win, which was enough to steal 3rd place from Jay Schindeler Academy in a final round nail-biter. Great work, gentlemen! The Christ the King tournament features competition from Topeka, Lawrence, and the Kansas City Area. We are proud of our students who are certainly making a name for HFE across the state!
Weekly Parent E-mails
Parents, please remember the importance of the weekly parent e-mails from Mrs. Wentling! E-mails are sent out Tuesday and Friday of each week using the e-mail addresses that you listed on your enrollment paperwork. These e-mails include important calendar dates, upcoming events, feedback, policy reminders, and other helpful information for our families. We show that about only half of the parents have been opening the e-mails this school year. You can refer to any of the past e-mails in the archive included on the side menu bar called “Weekly Newsletters” and you are always welcome to subscribe with a new e-mail address at any time. Thank you for paying close attention to these! Be sure to check the teacher’s virtual classroom for more detailed classroom info each week, as well!
Be sure to check out the student news section on the bottom left side of the page! 4th, 5th and 6th graders will occasionally be submitting creative writing work for parents and people to read here on the web. Our first posts of the year have been added! We hope you enjoy this feature!
VIRTUS & Parent Volunteering
If you, your spouse, a grandparent or other relative plan to volunteer to drive for school field trips this coming school year, it is now Diocesan policy that all volunteers complete the VIRTUS training. We also must have a copy of your drivers license & auto insurance card on file. To complete the VIRTUS training, please click the link below and click “VIRTUS Registration”. You will need to create a log-in and password. You will be prompted to complete a background check, so if you have not done so within the last 5 years through the Salina Diocese, please submit your information for one. This would not include a background check for your work unless you are employed by a parish or school in the Diocese! We encourage you to carve out about 90 minutes of uninterrupted time, as there will be a video that you will not be able to exit and resume later, followed by a short questionnaire. Upon completion, you will be able to print out a certificate. If you have any troubles printing it, we can let the Diocese know and they will mail us a copy. We thank you so much for committing to this process in order to volunteer at our school!
Prayer to St. Joseph for Rain
Blessed Saint Joseph, God chose you to be the husband of the Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus. You cared for the Son of God as your own son and taught him a trade. Because you were so close to him, He will not refuse anything you ask. Intercede for us in our great need. Pray for the blessing of rain. We are grateful for the moisture that we have received, but the land needs more. Ask God to water our fields and gardens, to fill the rivers, streams and lakes, and to bless our crops and livestock. Help us to live close to Jesus and Mary, as you did, strong in faith and good works, caring for one another. Amen.
Mary, Mother of God, and spouse of Joseph, pray for us.
St. Isadore, patron of farmers and farm life, pray for us.
