Holy Family Team Completes the Sweep
All four competitors from Holy Family Elementary finished with a winning record and landed in the top ten in individual standings. The Holy Family fifth graders were led in their quest for the first place elementary trophy by Noah Bruggeman who claimed the individual second place medal with five wins. He was supported by team members Braydon Binder, also with five wins and a 3rd place medal, and Jensen Brull’s five-win fourth place medal. Tate Dinkel’s four wins rounded out HFE’s strong showing in ninth place. Host school, Concordia, sported a strong 19 player team, and HFE’s four players each contributed to the team win against great odds.
The Monarchs will compete next on February 20 at the Pleasant Valley Wichita tournament. Other tournaments on the schedule are set for March 5 at Hillsboro, and both HFE and TMP-Marian will have strong teams in this year’s KSCA state tournament on March 12 in Lawrence.

Holy Family Holds on the Runner-Up Spot in K-5
Four 5th grade students from Holy Family also made the trip to compete in the K-5 division. The fifth grade team of regulars, Tate Dinkel, Braydon Binder, Jensen Brull, and Noah Bruggeman, meddled 18th, 13th, 10th, and 6th respectively in the K-5 Division. Binder, Bruggeman, and Brull each had four wins. Dinkel’s three wins brought the team total to 15 points, which was enough to hold off challenger Holy Cross of Wichita and claim the second place team trophy. Wichita’s St. Francis of Assisi’s nine talented team members won the K-5 division.
Holy Family second grader, Jenna Brull, represented the K-2 division and competed for individual honors. She ended the day with two wins and two draws for a 3-3 record and enough to take 10th place in the division.
The Wichita North Invitational had nearly 200 registrants across all four divisions. Hays Catholic Schools were well represented with medalists in all four divisions and team trophies in K-12, K-8, and K-5. Photos of the day’s action can be seen HERE.
VIRTUS & Parent Volunteering
If you, your spouse, a grandparent or other relative plan to volunteer to drive for school field trips this coming school year, it is now Diocesan policy that all volunteers complete the VIRTUS training. We also must have a copy of your drivers license & auto insurance card on file. To complete the VIRTUS training, please click the link below and click “VIRTUS Registration”. You will need to create a log-in and password. You will be prompted to complete a background check, so if you have not done so within the last 5 years through the Salina Diocese, please submit your information for one. This would not include a background check for your work unless you are employed by a parish or school in the Diocese! We encourage you to carve out about 90 minutes of uninterrupted time, as there will be a video that you will not be able to exit and resume later, followed by a short questionnaire. Upon completion, you will be able to print out a certificate. If you have any troubles printing it, we can let the Diocese know and they will mail us a copy. We thank you so much for committing to this process in order to volunteer at our school!
Prayer to St. Joseph for Rain
Blessed Saint Joseph, God chose you to be the husband of the Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus. You cared for the Son of God as your own son and taught him a trade. Because you were so close to him, He will not refuse anything you ask. Intercede for us in our great need. Pray for the blessing of rain. We are grateful for the moisture that we have received, but the land needs more. Ask God to water our fields and gardens, to fill the rivers, streams and lakes, and to bless our crops and livestock. Help us to live close to Jesus and Mary, as you did, strong in faith and good works, caring for one another. Amen.
Mary, Mother of God, and spouse of Joseph, pray for us.
St. Isadore, patron of farmers and farm life, pray for us.
